Drive to Port Macquarie

Port Macquarie is positioned on the New South Wales North Coast, just off the Pacific Highway. Improvements to the highway now make it easily 4.5 hrs drive from Sydney’s northern suburbs, and less than 3hrs from Newcastle. Travelling south, it is a 7hrs drive from Brisbane. From western New South Wales, the Oxley Highway provides access from the New England Highway, Armidale and Tamworth in less than 4hrs.

Qantaslink, Virgin Blue and Brindabella Airlines

Port Macquarie is less than one hour's flying time from Sydney and 1.5 hrs from Brisbane. QantasLink and Virgin Blue provide daily flights between Sydney and Port Macquarie, with smooth connections from intrastate and interstate flights. Daily flights also operate between Brisbane, Coffs Harbour and Canberra to Port Macquarie on Brindabella Airlines.

The XPT train service between Sydney and Brisbane stops at Wauchope, 20mins inland from Port Macquarie, and Kendall daily. A coach connection is provided for passengers travelling to Port Macquarie from Wauchope Station.

Busways - Greater Port Macquarie

If you are staying in the CBD, Flynns Beach or Shelly Beach area, park the car and use the coastal walk or local bus service. Busways operate between the shopping centres and beaches, and travel to most towns and areas around the Greater Port Macquarie region. Taxis are also available and for larger groups, maxi taxis seat up to eleven people.

North Shore, Port Macquarie

By Ferry

Port Macquarie is serviced by two ferries linking the CBD to the North Shore, providing access to Limeburners Creek Nature Reserve, North Beach and Crescent Head via Maria River Road (gravel road) and Point Plomer Road (4WD access only).

Settlement Point Ferry
21 vehicle ferry located at Settlement Point Road.
Operates 24 hours, 7 days a week. Closed for maintenance between 9.30am and 3.30pm every 3rd Wednesday of the month.

Hibbard Ferry
15 vehicle ferry located at Boundary Street off Hastings River Drive.
Monday to Friday - 6.30am to 10am and 2.45pm to 7pm.
Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays - 8am to 7pm.
School Holidays - 6.30am to 7pm.
