NSW Taskforce on Tourism and National Parks
In May 2008 a Taskforce on Tourism and National Parks in New South Wales was established by the New South Wales Government. The Taskforce was engaged to provide advice on practical methods to expedite the realisation of NSW State Plan objectives, and report on opportunities for an enhanced level of sustainable nature tourism on New South Wales public lands, particularly national parks, marine parks and reserves. Regional Tourism Employment in Australia, 2006-07 to 2008-09
Tourism plays an important role in the Australian economy in terms of its contribution to Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Gross Value Added (GVA) and employment. The Tourism Research Australia (TRA) regional employment model was used to generate tourism employment estimates for ten tourism regions and for each state and territory. The ten regions for which employment is estimated are: Sydney; Hunter; South Coast; Melbourne; Brisbane; Gold Coast; Tropical North Queensland; Sunshine Coast; Experience Perth; and Adelaide. Surf Action Tourism Plan
The purpose of Tourism NSW ’s Surf Tourism Action Plan is to consolidate the State’s position as Australia’s premier surf destination, increase its share of the Australian surf tourism market, and to assist in growing surf tourism to coastal regions. ‘Surf tourism’ describes activity which takes place 40 km or more from the person’s place of residence, where surfing or attending a surfing event are the primary purpose for travel. The National Visitor Survey (NVS) is the major source of information on the characteristics and travel patterns of domestic tourists. It measures travel for all reasons, including holiday and leisure travel, business travel and travel to visit friends and relatives. Visitor Profile and Satisfaction (VPS) Program - 2007/2008
In 2007 and 2008, Port Macquarie-Hastings Council's Tourism section entered into a contract with Tourism Research Australia (TRA) to participate in the Visitor Profile and Satisfaction (VPS) Program. This Program was developed by TRA in conjunction with AC Nielson. The overall objective of the VPS Program was to develop a comprehensive understanding of the profile, travel behaviours and satisfaction of visitors to Greater Port Macquarie over two waves, visiting Port Macquarie during different seasonal periods.
