Traditional Aboriginal Basket Weaving with a Fun Twist Workshop

Cooeee Sistas presents local Aboriginal artist Debbs Robinson for an exciting afternoon learning traditional Aboriginal weaving techniques. Cooeee Sistas are all about closing the gap with community, families, culture and Country. Maybe you're wanting to reconnect with culture or maybe you're connecting with it for the very first time, It doesn't matter, because it’s a fantastic opportunity for everyone to learn more about Aboriginal culture and learn a skill that is thousands of years old! The skill and knowledge will stay with you forever and the experience of learning this skill with your children is priceless. You'll never look at grasses the same way again!

Cooeee Sistas provide a safe, attractive, nurturing space that will encourage your creativity to come to the fore. This exciting afternoon kicks off with Debbs sharing with you, her passion, love and knowledge of traditional Aboriginal weaving practises using native grasses and demonstrating same. You will then be invited to start your very own basket. The material they will use is natural Madagascan raffia which is an ideal soft material for adults and children alike to learn this traditional stitching method. They have also prepared naturally dyed, colourful raffia for you to use.

A scrumptious afternoon tea will be provided. You should be warned that weaving is way too much fun and terribly addictive! See you there!
