Autumn is the perfect season to discover the region's rich history during the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council’s Heritage Festival.
As one of the oldest settlements in NSW, so much awaits you to discover or rediscover, including the region's natural, Aboriginal and European histories - from the first inhabitants the Birpai people, the European convict settlement in 1821 to their modern history as a tourist mecca and sea-change city.
This year's Heritage Festival theme is 'Journeys' as part of the 2018 Bicentenary - 'where have we come from where are we now and where are we going?' There are over 15 events taking place for information of what's happening please check out the website.
Now in its 21st year, the Festival promises something for everyone, including family and kids activities, shipwreck and local art exhibitions, heritage and archaeology tours, vintage car tours, lectures, talks costumed performers and much, much more.
