Homeward Bound: Jason Williamson’s 4,000 km Run Across Australia

Homeward Bound: Jas…

Port Macquarie—get ready to welcome one of your own home in the most extraordinary way possible. Jason Williamson, ultramarathoner, aviation entrepreneur, and Port Macquarie local, is returning to his hometown not by flight, but on foot—running an astonishing 4,000 kilometres, from Perth to Port Macquarie, to mark his 50th birthday in August 2025.

A Milestone Birthday, But Make It Epic

This isn’t your average birthday jog. Over 50 rugged days, Jason will cover roughly 84 km per day—two marathons a day—through blistering heat, remote desert, and the stretch of the Nullarbor Plain.
It’s a formidable test of physical endurance and mental resilience, all wrapped up with heart: raising awareness and funds for Gotcha4Life in Australia and A Lust for Life in Ireland—two charities dedicated to empowering young people with mental fitness.

Why He Runs

Just seven years ago, Jason struggled to run beyond 15 km. Now, he’s taking on nearly 100 marathons in less than two months. His running journey began as a response to the demands of his aviation career—it became his way to reclaim both physical and mental health. Writing itself into the script of ultra-endurance, he went on to set the fastest known time for completing Ireland’s Ireland Way (1,038 km in 14 days) in June 2023.

The Journey Unfolds

The run officially began on 7 August 2025, with Jason aiming to arrive in Port Macquarie by late September, with a few contingency rest days built in. Along the way, he’ll pass through iconic outback towns—Norseman, Port Augusta, Broken Hill, Dubbo, Tamworth—each leg a milestone toward home. He’s supported by a small, dedicated crew: physiotherapists, logistical coordinators, a videographer—and even special guests like his dad join for parts of the trek.

Why Port Macquarie Should Be Proud

This return is deeply personal. Jason's journey culminates back in Port Macquarie—not just geographically, but emotionally. It's a hometown welcome symbolising community, resilience, and the unwavering belief that with the right support and mindset, anything is possible.

And if that alone isn’t enough, don’t forget the tributes along the way: Six West Aviation is sponsoring the trek as part of their CSR commitment, local charities are rallied behind, and artist Sophie Tea’s artwork is being raffled in support of the cause.
