Whale Tales
Turns out Port Mac's coastline is one of the best places to spot migrating whales on the whole East Coast of Oz! Something about the way the coastline angles? Whatever, just show me some whales!
So the 'Whale Superhighway' runs from May to November, and recently included not just the usual humpbacks migrating north then south (with their calves in tow..squeee!), but recently included Orcas as well!
Where to Spot Whales
Whether you are standing on a vantage point along our stunning coastline or chasing ocean waves on a jetboat, the chances of spotting whales breaching during their May to November migration, is very likely.

It's an unforgettable experience exploring the ocean for humpbacks, southern rights and other whales as they journey along our coastline and feed on an abundance of small fish and prawns in the waters. For those of you who like to have your feet planted firmly on terra firma we have plenty of vantage points for you to visit so you can witness this wonderful spectacle and take in our stunning coastline at the same time.
Really anywhere along the coast is likely to deliver a moment to cherish but here are a few suggestions on where you can take in the view and the action out on the water. We've pulled together our favourite viewing spots below.
Delightful Dolphins
Don't they just make you smile? There are plenty of these playful creatures in our rivers and out to sea, and you'll likely spot a few as you're walking along the riverside promenade. Some of our water view bars and restaurants are also lucky enough to get regular 'dolphin shows' :)
They love to swim along side our boats, ducking in and out of the wake or racing alongside the bow. Cruise Port Macquarie offers Dolphin spotting river cruises (their pic above), as does Port Jet.
