Port Macquarie

The Big Koala Festival Treasure Hunt

Celebrate the ninth Hello Koalas Festival Treasure Hunt, named in honour of The Big Koala in 2025. This is the world's first festival celebrating Australia's much-loved iconic koala.

Established in 2017, the Festival is an annual cultural tourism event centred and in 2025 is centred around two 3 day treasure hunts in September & October.

The Festival has been inspired by the Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail which encompasses over 90 fibreglass one-metre-high koala sculptures, hand-painted by local artists, located in 72 locations on the Mid-North Coast.

There is now also 'The Big Koala .. Spirit of All Koalas', a 2.5-metre koala sculpture at Guulabaa, Place of Koala in the Cowarra State Forest, being created by Forestry Corporation in collaboration with four project partners including Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail, WildNets, Koala Conservation Australia and Bunyah Aboriginal Land Council.

The Festival Treasure Hunts are outdoor nature-based cultural experiences presented in partnership with Regional Australia Bank and Forestry Corporation of NSW. Thirty five Hello Koalas sculptures on the Trail have been selected for the 2025 Treasure Hunts around Greater Port Macquarie.
